ATLANTA - Georgia State University (GSU) students studying financial planning will get a real-life lesson in investing in philanthropy from Atlanta private wealth counsel firm Brightworth. In support of the Financial Planning profession and Georgia State University's Financial Planning program, Brightworth will award an annual scholarship to an outstanding GSU student.
"Brightworth has had a relationship with Georgia State University for many years, and we are always very impressed with the quality of the university's students," said Dave Polstra, Chairman of Brightworth. "We saw this as an opportunity to further invest in the educational excellence of the students entering the financial planning industry."
The scholarship will be awarded annually to a GSU student who is enrolled in the Certificate, Masters, or MBA program and has a Financial Planning concentration. Eligible students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have completed at least 50% of their required financial planning coursework. In addition, the successful candidate must exhibit Brightworth's core values of integrity, excellence, service, and teamwork.
"Brightworth has been a great asset to GSU students over the years," said Dr. Conrad Ciccotello, Program Director and Associate Professor of Personal Financial Planning at GSU. "The personal finance industry continues to become more and more complex, making it increasingly important for a quality education. The Brightworth scholarship will help students focus on their education and prepare for outstanding careers."
Interdisciplinary in scope, the study of personal financial planning at GSU draws on course work in various disciplines that include finance, insurance, taxation, law and real estate. Students learn to formulate and implement a comprehensive plan for the accumulation, conservation and transfer of a client's personal wealth. Emphasis is placed on a coordinated, conceptual program, based on an individual's specific goals and objectives.
GSU's Department of Risk Management and Insurance is part of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business. The RMI Department is one of the largest and finest centers of risk management education and research in the world, and specializes in understanding, quantifying, financing, and developing strategies for managing the risks faced by individuals, organizations, and society.
