New Law Allows Tax-Free Charitable Donations
If you're over 70.5 years of age, have an IRA and want to give to charity, there's good news for you in the new federal Pension Protection Act.
The law, signed by President George W. Bush in August, allows people that age to give $100,000 directly from their IRA to the qualifying charity of their choice, without having to pay federal income tax on the money. Only the tax years 2006 and 2007 are affected.
